How does the resistance of a piece of wire depend on the length and thickness? Plan To find the resistance of a wire: R = V Resistance = Voltage (volts) I Current (amps) I will see how the resistance of a wire is affected when the thickness of the wire and the length of the wire is altered. The wire I will use is constantan wire. I will investigate wires with three different diameters, 24 swg (0.56 mm), 30 swg (0.31 mm), 32 swg (0.28 mm) and with seven lengths at each thickness, from 40 cm to 100 cm. I will set up a series circuit including a voltmeter and an ammeter. My power source will be a power pack. I will stretch each wire on a metre rule to prevent the wire crossing and short circuiting and attach it to the circuit with crocodile clips.
