How does the length of wire affect the resistance around a circuit? I am planning this investigation to find out if the length of wire in a circuit affects the resistance in it. I will need an understanding of electricity, resistance and, probably, voltage. I predict that the longer the piece of wire, the more resistance there will be. I will keep the material, diameter, temperature and voltage being passed through it the same. I shall use nichrome wire and make it lengths of 100cm, 90cm, 80cm, 70cm, 60cm and 50cm and so on until 20cm. This way I can see if it changes with an extra 80cm in between. I will pass 3V through the wire. As it says in 'Complete Physics' by Stephen Pople, there are four main factors affecting resistance. They are length, cross-sectional area, material and temperature.
