Resistance in a wire Aim: How does the length of wire affect the resistance? Introduction: Electricity travels through conductors to the application that needs the electricity. For the electricity to travel through the wire it must pass obstacles, these obstacles are called resistance. Resistance is the amount of obstacles in the way of electrons in a conductor and how hard it is for the electrons to get through. I n a wire a low resistance will mean that electrons will be able to get to an appliance faster. This means there are fewer collisions as in the diagram below (1). In a wire with high resistance there are more obstacles and collisions are more frequent, the electrons will reach an appliance slowly.
