How does the length of nichrome wire effect resistance? Aim My aim is to find out how much of a change there is in resistance in relationship with the length of nichrome wire I use within my circuit. Prediction I predict that the longer the wire, the higher the resistance. This is because the longer the wire, the more times the free electrons will collide with other free electrons, the particles which make up the wire and any other impurities within the wire. Therefore, more energy is going to be lost in these collisions (as heat energy). Also, doubling the length of the wire should almost double the resistance. This is because by doubling the length of the wire we should also be doubling the collisions that will occur. Obviously for this to take place I would have to make it a fair test.
