How Efficient is an Immersion Heater by Ryan Ginty Introduction Aim The aim of my experiment is to find out how efficient an immersion heater is using the formula: Efficiency=Energy Out (heat) Energy In (electricity) Factors The factors that affect the efficiency of an immersion heater are; 1. Thickness of Wire 2. Length of Wire 3. Volume of Water 4. Voltage Supplied I will be changing the Length of Wire and the Voltage supplied because they are both very closely linked with the resistance of the heater. The amount of energy that is turned into heat energy is measured through the heaters resistance, so I can work out how efficient the heater is. Prediction 1 I predict that as the wire gets longer the resistance will increase. This is because the electrons are being "pushed" around the circuit and they will collide with atoms in the resistor, as the atoms in the resistor are given more energy by the electrons they will...
