Physics Coursework Plan INTRODUCTION The purpose of this investigation is to find out the effect of a wire's length on its electric resistance. BACKGROUND INFORMATION A current is a flow of charge and in metals it is the flow of free electrons. Current is measured in Amps (A) or milliamps (MA). Resistance occurs when the electrons traveling along the wire collide with the atoms of the wire. These collisions slow down the flow of electrons causing resistance. Resistance is a measure of how difficult it is to move the electrons through the wire.
