Do we have a suitable replacement for telephone wires, instead of copper? I am going to investigate the possibility of there being a suitable alternative for telephone wires other than copper. A good alternative for telephone wires must have a low resistance. This is so that electrical current can move through the wire most efficiently. A good alternative must also have a low resistivity. Resistivity is a property that describes how much a material resists the flow of electric current. Resistivity is measured in ?m (ohm metres). To calculate the resistivity of a material the equation below should be used: ? = RA ? Where : ? = Resistivity (?m) R = Resistance (?) A = Area of the material's cross section (mē) ? = Length of the material (m) In order for a wire to be a suitable alternative to copper it must have quite a low resistivity.
