Do more layers of heat insulating clothes keep us warmer? Method In this experiment we will be testing whether more layers of heat insulating clothes keep us (humans) warmer. Therefore there will need to be a substitute for the human temperature and as the body contains a lot of water in it, then it seems wise to use water. Also water is a good liquid between an easily accessible temperature range and is a poor heat conductor, which means that it will be unable to take in extra heat easily. The human bodies normal temperature is 37C, and it would seem sensible to use that temperature as the starting temperature. However, there is not enough heat energy at that temperature to provide adequate results, so therefore a higher temperature should be used to test if insulation can keep in a large amount of heat energy trying to escape.
