Neck (Pivot) The joint in the neck allows the player to manoeuvre their head over the line of the ball so that it provides a stable balance as well as control in the shot. The pivot joint in the neck works by a pivot-like process turning within a ring, the ring being formed by bone and ligament thus allowing rotation of the head this allows for the perfect position of the head whilst playing the shot. A different joint would not be as effective as this type for this movement as with the pivot joint only allowing rotation it provides a stable and balance position for the head to be in where as another type of joint may effect the stability of the head therefore reducing the effectiveness of the stroke.
