The police service The dictionary definition of the police is: an organized force in a state which keeps law and order. The modern day type police force did not start in till the 19th century. There is not a single police service enforcing law, the police service is made up of several police forces, these forces are separated in geographical areas Policing is about the protection of property and preservation of the Queen's peace. This involves building community relationships, collecting intelligence, preventing crime and the fear of crime, turning investigations into evidence and presenting evidence to courts.
