Recent Reviews of Miscellaneous Essays
What our users think of the Miscellaneous essays in this section:
"Excellent. This is very well written and the essay presents an astute analysis of the opening sequence to the film, correctly identifying numerous visual cues that serve to create the right mood for the sequence. Every part of the sequence is discussed in detail, and the author clearly has a full understanding of the techniques used in the film. Perhaps one way in which the essay could be improved would be with the inclusion of a summary paragraph at the end to draw together all of the previous comments, but otherwise this is a very good piece of writing.

"A very good piece of persuasive writing, that deals with a rather serious topic. You use a range of persuasive techniques in your writing, such as statistics, using personal pronouns and asking rhetorical questions. Maybe, you could even talk about the injuries that are suffered, to try and add fear to the reader. I do think that you could have expanded on this slightly more, as it is quite a short piece of writing.

"You have outlined the basic information regarding cannabis - such as, the consequences of using it and why people use it so often. Good quotes have been used as evidence, from a variety of sources, to back up your points and make them stronger. You have explored what would happen if cannabis were to become legal. Also, when you talk about the article that states cannabis should be illegal, you have analysed the text very closely and have shown how bias it is. An excellent conclusion, summing up your opinion about cannabis. While your introduction is good, you don't actually state that you are talking about cannabis until the second paragraph.

"The first big problem with this essay is the lack of title, and hence a lack of focus. It reads as a summary of characters from the book, but then finishes with a conclusion regarding the closeness of Lenny and George. There's little to no evaluation or analysis: the essay relies on general arm-waving when trying to suggest key points with regards to characters (which, admittedly, it comes up with good general descriptions for.)
