Analysis of Text 22- September 1666 Genre The text is written in 1st person as throughout the text, Pepys' often says "I". The genre of the text is diary and a diary is a book which tells what happened over the course of a day or a period .The diary describes how the great fire of London started and how much destruction it had caused. Also the author, Samuel Pepys wrote for his own enjoyment. Purpose The purpose of the text was to describe was to describe the events that took place at the start of the great fire of London and how everyone reacted to the fire but also another purpose may be that it was a reminder to Pepys of what had happened.
