Coursework. Why Did The Whitechapel Murders Attract So Much Attention In 1888? The Whitechapel murders attracted a lot of attention all over the country. Whitechapel was a poor area, there were many prostitutes working there and it was common for crime, especially murder to be committed there. However, these murders were different. The killings of the prostitutes in Whitechapel were very violent and vicious. They got even more violent and viscous as they went on. More body parts were removed from the victims and often the killer took many body parts. The victims had their throats cut down to the bone and were often disembowelled. They were also found with the skirts lifted as well. In the 19th century there was no such thing as a sex attack so this was the first type of this. These unique killings would have attracted a lot of attention because they were the first of their kind...
