How are the Conventions of Typical Fairytales Subverted in Shrek? Fairytales are traditional imaginary stories based on a moral, which is usually revealed at the end of the story. They are old-fashioned tales involving characters such as kings, queens, witches and dragons. Most fairytales have strong themes of good and evil with a 'happily ever after' ending. These fantasy tales are aimed at children; it broadens their imagination and teaches them about moral and understanding. For example, in 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', Goldilocks intrudes on somebody else's property without asking, and so is scared away by the three bears. The moral of this story is to respect other people's property and privacy. Fairytales include many typical conventions. There are many conventional characters that usual appear in fairytales, for example, the prince, princess, goblin, witch, dragon, fairy godmother and so on.
