Does the news give bad representation of ethnic minorities? This essay is concerned with looking at the news media and then trying to identify if it is misrepresenting ethnic minorities in its stories and presentation. News presentation of subjects connected with ethnic minorities has a significant influence on public opinion. Of the several factors affecting alot of the ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom is the manner in which sensitive events involving them are covered and subsequently reported. Exaggerated, underrated, biased and sensationalised representation of ethnic minority events have historically done nothing but provoke anger, disgust and distrust of the media minority communities while nurturing feelings of resentment, apathy, distrust and hate among mainstream Britain of ethnic minorities. Selectivity of material also ranks high on the list of oppressive reporting tactics of certain news agencies.
