Ryan Sy English IBS-1 Mrs. Ching January 14, 2004 Commentary on "The Idea of Perfection" This passage written by Kate Greenville illustrates how a simple object like a bridge symbolizes so much more when reduced to its essence. In fact, this single bridge shows much more character than any other object within the passage, including the main persona herself. The single character within the passage stays nameless throughout the text. The only sound heard from her is a single laugh that is cut short. This is the only sound throughout the text, and she appears to be the only person. The silence in the passage adds to the lonely image of a single character within what appears to be a ghost town. Even from the very beginning, there is little color besides pale light. Images almost like a black and white silent film are displayed.
