DOES THE LENGTHY ELECTION CAMPAIGN PRODUCE THE BEST CANDIDATE TO BE PRESIDENT? To gain the nomination for the Presidential election in the United States, there are a number of key factors which a candidate must consider before thinking of running. A substantial amount of money is needed to support the vast quantity of travelling and the increasing costs of campaigning. Well-organised campaign staff are also another key issue for the candidates, who need a good, well informed, experienced team backing them. It also helps if the candidate is popular and has some previous political experience. However at its worst this can produce a candidate who is telegenic, policy free and has 'style over substance', who is seen to have been bought by wealthy corporations, therefore they are demagogues or populist politicians.
