The geographical characteristics of the area The map below shows the Pencarrow Burrows area and the type and shape of the sand dunes in it: The reason for Pencarrow Burrows' natural beauty is its sand dunes. It has recently however become an area of much debate, due to the proposals of the building of a holiday village and the effects it will have on the surrounding countryside. The controversy about this area arose when the local people in Avery Hill supported the proposals for the Leisuretime resort. The National Trust however has realised that the building of this holiday village would cause the Pencarrow Burrows beauty spot to become damaged, in particular the sand dunes and the coast. The sand dunes took many years to form, starting only as a flat plain of sand. The dunes in Pencarrow Burrows are mostly fixed dunes which most of the holiday village will be built on....
