Where is Dartmoor? Dartmoor is in Devon, in the South of England Dartmoor's relief, soils, vegetation, farming, many of its buildings and much of its industry have been to some degree influenced by the nature of the area's geology. Most of Dartmoor consists of granite which was intruded during the late Carboniferous/early Permian Period (around 280 million years ago) into the areas we know as Devon and Cornwall. Dartmoor granite covers and area of 241 square miles and represents the largest area of exposed granite in Southern Britain. Dartmoor How were the Dartmoor tors made?
