A Hydraulic Device. I have to design a hydraulic device that can lift weights heavier than are applied to it. The ratio of the load /effort is called the Mechanical Advantage. This should be greater than one for the device to be worth making. Examples of hydraulic devices are quite common. Car brakes depend on a small force applied at the brake exerting a large force on the wheel to stop the car. I selected two different sized glass syringes and connected them with a rubber tube filled with water. This is shown in the diagram. How it Worked I out weights on the large syringe and found out the smallest weight that would raise this by putting this smaller weight on the smaller syringe. I have calculated the mechanical advantage for each system. The results are: Effort in Load in Mechanical Advantage I conclude from these results that my device .....
