INVESTIGATION INTO HOW THE SIZE OF A SHADOW DEPENDS ON THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE OBJECT AND THE SCREEN. SKILL AREA P: PLANNING Introduction Light travels in straight lines. Shadows are formed by an opaque object, which does not let any light through, is set in front of a light source. As I stated before that light travels in straight lines, the light rays cannot curve around the object to light the area behind the object. I will be investigating how the size of shadows changes when varying the distance between the object and screen. Variables That May Affect The Size Of The Shadow To change the size of the shadow you could vary: * The distance between the light bulb and the object, The ray diagrams show that when the distance increases the height of the shadow decreases. This is because when the object is closer to the light bulb, the rays have not dispersed whereas, when...
