Compare how the two situation comedies you have studied offer representations of gender. Both 'The Office' and 'Friends' both are gender-based situation comedies. I will discuss some of the similarities and differences of the comedies and how they both represent gender to their audiences. The first major difference between the two comedies is the structure. In 'Friends' we can clearly see there is a very tight plot structure in terms of problems, complications and resolutions. There is always a new set of problems for each show and all the problems are shown at the start of the show and resolved by the end. 'The Office' does not have such tight plotting, there is much less emphasis on specifics as it concerntrates on showing humour of very basic general situations within a common place - here, the workplace.
