My plan For my investigation, I am going to compare a newspaper, magazine and an internet article. The articles are on films. The film I'm going to do is Along Came Polly, from The Daily Mail, OK! Magazine and www.bbc.co.uk/somerset/films/2004/02/along_came_polly.shtml. I will get my example of 100 words from the first 20 sentences. Hypothesis My hypothesis is that magazine articles use longer words than newspaper articles. Newspaper Length of words Tally Frequency 1 6 2 20 3 23 4 20 5 13 6 8 7 1 8 6 9 1 10 1 11 1 12 0 13 0 14 0 15 0 Total 100 Magazine Length of words Tally Frequency 1 4 2 19 3 25 4 15 5 14 6 9 7 6 8 3 9 3 10 1 11 0 12 1 13 0 14 0 15 0 Total 100 Median, Mean, Mode and Range Newspaper Length of words Frequency No Frequency Cumulative Frequency 1 6 6 6 2 20 40 26 3 23 69 49 4 20 80 69 5 13 65 82 6 8 48 90 7 1 7 91 8 6 48 97 9 1 9 98 10 1 10 99 11 1 11 100 Total 100 393 Magazine Length of words Frequency No Frequency Cumulative Frequency 1 4 4 4 2 19 38 23 3 25 75 48 4 15 60 63 5 14 70 77 6 9 54 86 7 6 42 92 8 3 24 95 9 3 27 98 10 1 10 99 11 0 0 99 12 1 0 100 Total 100 416 Newspaper Median = 4 Mean = 393 100 = 3.93 Mode = 4 Range = 11 - 1 = 10 Magazine Median = 4 Mean = 416 100 = 4.16 Mode = 3 Range = 12 - 1 = 11 Conclusion In conclusion I found out that my Hypothesis, which was, magazine articles use longer words than newspapers was correct. I know this because when I look at the median, mean, mode and range tell me my hypothesis is proved just right. The median...
