Stair Investigation 45 35 36 25 26 27 This is a 3 step stair. The total of numbers inside the stair shape is: 25+26+27+35+36+45 = 194. The 3 stair total for this step is 194. The smallest stair is in the bottom left corner of the grid: 21 11 12 1 2 3 The total of this grid is 1+2+3+11+12+21=50. The 3 stair total for this stair is 50. Three step stairs can also be placed in other locations on the grid, in different places and positions. I will start in the bottom left corner, and move to the right by one square each time, because this is logical and methodical; the numbers will be sequenced. 1+2+3+11+12+21 = 50 2+3+4+12+12+22 = 56 3+4+5+13+14+23 = 62 4+5+6+14+15+24 = 66 5+6+7+15+16+25 = 72 6+7+8+16+17+26 = 78 This can be shown in a table: n Total 1 50 2 56 3 62 4 66 5 72 6 78 There is a trend in these results; every time the stair is moved to the right by one square, the total increases by six. Using this idea...
