Joy Luck Club: Red Candle Summary: Lindo Jong looks back at her past. She remembers when her mom arranged her marriage. She was forced to marry a crybaby, a boy she never really liked. The family from which the boy came was wealthier, and without showing it, Lindo's mother wants her to go there to get the best possible future. A flood ruins her family's house, and the family leaves, but leaves Lindo there to live with her new family. Prior to this, Lindo's parents treat her like she is already part of a new family. Lindo does not like her new mother-in-law but cannot show it because she wants to honour her parents' wishes and not complain. At the wedding ceremony, a candle is lit at two ends to symbolize the light of the couple's love. Lindo sneaks out of the house and blows out one end while the watcher...
