"How has technology changed the nature of Australia Post over the past years." The origins of Australia Post can be traced back to 1809 with Isaac Nichols, who was the first Postmaster in Sydney. Ever since this ex-convict started out, Australia Post has kept up with the current technology, first using trains in an overland mail service between Sydney and Melbourne, then onto 1838 when the prepayment for services was introduced in the form of a adhesive stamp. From these rather primitive methods of processing mail by hand back in the 1800's to 1930 when mechanical mail handling was introduced, continuing onto 1999 when barcoded mail began, Australia Post has been on the forefront of every technology chance in mail processing.
