Have a little read: ... Why was there a need for a New Deal in 1932? In November 1932 Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president in a dramatic landslide victory over Herbert Hoover. He had won 42 out of the 48 states, 7 million more votes than Hoover. He won over all these votes by promising the United states a 'New Deal'.'I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people. They needed a new deal mainly because of the great depression that had been going on for 3 years. The American public had a big shock when the depression came because there had been a boom only just before. Between 1929 and 1932 over 5000 banks went bust. The trade value of America's foreign trade dropped from 9 billion dollars to 3 billion dollars, unemployment grew rapidly. By 1932 unemployment has risen to at least 12 million.
