DID ROOSEVELT'S UP BRING, BACKGROUND AND CHARACTER MAKE IT EASY FOR HIM TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCERNS AN D FEARS OF ORDINARY AMERICANS Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York on the 30th January 1882. A distant cousin of Theodore Roosevelt. The Roosevelt's were very wealthy family and Franklin Roosevelt was educated at home by tutors until he attended Groton School at 14. He was a successful student and went on to Harvard University and then Columbia Law Schools. In 1910 he entered politics by winning election to the state senate, he also campaigned for Woodrow Wilson in the 1912 election and went on to serve as assistant secretary of the navy until1920. He then ran as vice president to James Cox on the losing Democratic ticket in 1920. The next year changed Franklin Roosevelt's life as he was stricken down with poliomyelitis, crippled for life he eventually
