Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union from 1928-1953. He managed to get rid of his opponents to rule on his own and became Lenin's successor. Stalin was a dictator but under him The Soviet Union developed from a backward country to a world power. Stalin had many achievements during his reign, like the industrialisation of Russia, which turned it in a much more modern and developed country, and the creating of loads of jobs. But people also suffered under Stalin. Many were taken into labour camps, famine broke out, and under Stalin a time known as the Terror came up.
