The success of the Bolsheviks in keeping power in Russia was as a result of the promises made by Lenin in 1917 to deliver "Bread, Peace and Land" and "all power to the soviets" Do you agree? In 1917, Russia was in a state of desperation and it seemed at the time that there was no likely escape. However, in April of 1917, Lenin made a speech (The April Theses) that promised "Bread, Peace and Land" to the citizens of Russia. Many have said that it was Lenin's infamous speech that helped the Bolsheviks into power although there are other factors that have played an important part in retaining their support and control. For example, the unpopularity of the Provisional Government. In the second half of 1917, their authority steadily collapsed and as a result of this the Bolshevik support grew rapidly.
