By Johnathan Lamb 11C GCSE History Coursework Assignment 2 Modern World Study: Ireland in Conflict 1.1 In my opinion, these sources show that certain individuals and groups have very different views on the situation in Ireland. There were the Nationalists who were people that wanted Ireland to be one country on it's own, the Unionists were people who wanted to keep the bond with the British Isles, and there was also the British government who tried to help but got too involved. In each party there was a special armed force, the Irish Republican Army (IRA) who is the violent side of the Nationalist party of which Sinn Fein is associated with, and the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) who are the resistance fighting force for the Unionists.
