By 1937-38 the British Government was expecting war. Hitler's apparent need for 'Lebensraum' (living space) was causing friction within Europe. The treaty of Versailles-1919 clearly stated that Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria and that German troops could not occupy the Rhineland, but Hitler wanted to expand and strengthen Germany. In 1935, Hitler had declared to the world that he'd re-built the German Army. This action was also forbidden by the treaty thus bringing Germany into conflict with France and Britain. According to Hitler, all none-German people were scum. He believed that the 'Aryan' race were superior to all others but for Germany to be 'clean' every other race inside of her had to be
