... The Berlin Wall After the World War 2, when Germany was defeated, Germany was split up into 4 different states. Each of them was controlled by the "Allied Powers": the Americans, British, French and the Soviets. Berlin was divided the same way, the West Berlin and the East Berlin. West Berlin was controlled by the French, British and the Americans while the East Berlin was controlled by only the Soviet Union or Russia. It was built up to separate the two states from each other for 28 years; it started in August 13, 1961 and was dismantled in 1989. West Berlin was a much 'healthier' place to live in because people say that 'it was much wealthier and had political freedoms'. People from the East Berlin wanted to move or as they call it 'fleeing', to West Berlin. Some wanted to get out of the place because they didn't want Communism or
