Medicine No.6 Surgery War is a key factor in improving surgery in the period c.1550-c. 1950' do you agree? Explain your answer. War was a great help for surgery because they was so many wars between 1550- 1950 this is then good because the sergeant can get lot of practise in the frontline hospitals during the war. It also helps the sergeant when people started to figurer out how to solve the 3 big problems of surgery (Infection, Pain and Blood loss). Before modern surgical developments, there was a very real threat that a patient would bleed to death on the table during an operation or while being attended after an accident or wound. The first real progress in combating bleeding had come when early cultures realized they could close wounds using extremes of heat, a procedure called cauterizing.
