Have a little read: ... Diary of a slave I went out to collect firewood; I was by myself of course. I wondered through the trees that stood tall looking for ones that had fallen and that were easy to collect and carry. After searching I found a fallen tree, it was dead I began to break off small pieces of wood, small enough for me to carry. I had nearly collected all the wood I needed when I was approached by two tall, black men. I dropped the wood; it fell to the floor into the path of the men who started to run towards me. I ran as fast as I could through the wood, I caught my arms on branches that stuck out at odd angles from all the crowded trees. My arms bled I felt the hot blood run down my arms, the cuts hurt so much, they were torn open on
