I believe he thought that if he could take lots of land and send back slaves he would be worshipped. Even better would be to take somewhere where Rome had never been before. I think Ceaser wanted to become a leader of the people. But they didn't really enough respect him enough yet. His needed something big to get there. Ceaser Before The Attack In 58 BC, Julius Caesar became governor and military commander of the Roman province of Gaul, which included France, Belgium, and some of Switzerland, Holland, and Germany west of the Rhine.
