Even as a small child, I remember often making such a proclamation: in kindergarten. it was "not fair" when I did not get to play with the toys I wanted. At home when mum punished me for watching television it was "not fair". In the playground when I was told by mum to forgo my favourite swing to my little sister. That's not fair! Through the plenty of "not fair" incidents that followed, my mother tried to explain that unfair things do happen sometimes. But I never accepted the idea of an unfair world and began to realize that there were a great many situations and conditions that were "not fair" to women in the past.
