Mormons- 2002 paper A) Why do you think this cartoon was published in the early 1840's? Use the source and your knowledge to explain your answer. The cartoon in this source is obviously against polygamy and shows the artist's view and interpretation of its results. The Mormons believed that Polygamy was a good idea and should be allowed. Brigham Young, the man that led the Mormons to Salt Lake, after the death of former leader and founder of Mormonism, John Smith, allegedly had twenty seven wives, being a clear supporter of polygamy. The cartoon shows a man, many women and eight visible babies, looking as if they are all screaming. The women are all fighting on the one bed and the man, who is portrayed as the husband of all of these women, is cowering on top of a wardrobe, as if having lost control.
