In source F, the police leaflet published after the murders of Elizabeth Stride and Kate Eddowes infers that the police wanted the public to be fully aware and possibly needed help into finding the Ripper. Although they didn't give any description of the killer it does inform the citizens of Whitechapel to report anything suspicious to help them catch the Ripper, 'should you know of any person to whom suspicion is attached, you are earnestly requested to communicate at once with the nearest police station. Source G, part of a letter from the Home Secretary to the mile End Vigilance Committee shows us that the police tried to catch the Ripper by not offering any rewards which they thought would only cause harm rather than help them catch the Ripper, 'offers of reward tended to produce more harm than good'.
