(6) From Source A, we learn that the murder of Polly Nicholls was thought to have been related to that of Marth Tabram. We know that the murders were shocking to the public as we are told that they 'startled London'. At the time of the murders, violence in the Whitechapel was not uncommon, so there must have been a reason why these stood out. Another reason why the two murders became linked was that there was no clear motive in either. Polly Nicholls was called the 'poorest of the poor', which shows that robbery was not the reason for the killing, as there was no 'adequate motive'.
