Analyse the main arguments of those whom supported slavery and those whom did not support it. In the 1860s, there were nearly four million slaves, concentrated mainly in the South of the United States of America. Fifty percent of the slave owners, in the 1860s, owned no more than five slaves but over fifty percent of the slaves lived on plantations with over twenty other slaves. More than half of the slave population worked in cotton production, making it the most important industry for the south, and slave owners. The fact that there were abolitionists and also those who wanted to keep the 'tradition' of slavery indicates a large divide in the overall American culture of the 1960s. This divide of ideas has led to two ways of which we interpret the way those whom supported slavery felt about slaves and about how those who were against it felt about. Obviously...
