... The Kashmir and Kobe Earthquakes The Kashmir On the 8th of October 2005, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale hit Muzaffarabad, Kashmir (an LEDC). It caused a lot of destruction and anxiety. It was the most destructive earthquake ever to hit that area. It was caused by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian Tectonic plates. Because the Kashmir is next to the Himalayas, earthquakes are very likely to happen there all the time- the plate boundary has a lot of seismic activity. The Kashmir had many lasting impacts and there was a lot of damage done. The immediate impacts were that approximately 1,400 people were killed straightaway. Also all infrastructures were destroyed, transport was suspended and communication was cut off. This meant that others cities and countries could not be informed and food and other supplies could not be received. The cutting off of communication also
