William Golding's novel 'The Lord of The flies' presents us with a group of English boys who are isolated on a desert island, left to try and retain a civilized society. In this novel Golding manages to display the boys slow descent into savagery as democracy on the island diminishes. Destruction, fear, death, authority and order are some of the themes. Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel and many of its symbols are readily interpreted. The author shows the destruction of order and the abuse of authority through Jack, the main antagonist of Ralph. Jack's character rules by fear and the way he abuses his power is similar to Hitler. In the novel, the littluns are terrified of the 'beast' and Jack uses their fear of the beast, to take away democracy and order. "Bollocks to the rules! We're strong- we hunt!
