Holiday Memory A flurry of T-shirts into the suitcase. A surge of sandwiches in bags. A herd of heavy elephants run across the upstairs landing in their haste to get to the bathroom before everyone else. The song 'We're all going on a summer holiday' repeats through my mind, although it's not summer, it's the middle of December. I hurriedly brush hair and throw last minute items into my bag for the plane. 4 am is much too early to be awake on a Saturday- especially on a Saturday! That's my initial response to being woken up, and cruelly made to leave my nice warm bed, my fat pillows, my thick duvet. The sun isn't even awake yet, only the early birds and the clouds although I suppose that the clouds are always awake at this time of year. The quietness in the early morning makes it seem surreal.
