In the three mystery short stories, 'The Signalman', 'The Red Room' and 'The Man with the Twisted Lip', effective settings and atmosphere are essential for keeping the reader gripped until the end. All three of these stories are examples of the mystery genre. The red room was written by H.G. wells during the Victorian period. It keeps the reader hooked by putting the main character into a frightening situation. Off which there is a history of paranormal activity.
