On Christmas Eve you would think that people would want to be celebrating, enjoying the delightful day to come all apart from Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge, but a Christmas Eve visit from the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future teaches him to open his heart to the spirit of Christmas and to the joys of friends and family. In this novel Charles Dickens portrays Ebenezer Scrooge as a bitter lonely old man. He is a very cold-hearted, selfish man, who has no love for Christmas, children, or anything that even provokes happiness. "The cold within him almost freezes his old features, nipped his pointed nose, made his eyes red, his thin lips blue, and he spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice ...".
