Have a little read: ... Frankenstein By Mary Shelly My assignment is about an outsider from a novel. An outsider is someone who is different and not accepted by other people, this might be because of the outsiders appearance, skin colour, attitude, accent, religion or race. Different people react in different ways towards outsiders. These reactions include fear, pity, bullying and mockery. Insiders take advantage of outsiders to make the insider feel good about themselves. An example of this is an insider bullying an outsider to make him look good in front of his friends. I have read two books that have outsider in them, 'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelly and 'Of Mice and Men' by Stienbeck. Frankenstien is about a doctor called Victor Frankenstein who after the loss of this mother set out to create a new life. Not knowing the consequences of doing such a task Doctor Frankenstein gathers the materials to accomplish his experiment and he finishes it without as much enthusiasm. Mary Shelly sets the scene of the creation's 'birth' by using words such as dreary night, dismally, lifeless, thing, and catastrophe. These words give the impression that the 'birth' of the creation wasn't a complete success and it isn't pleasant. Doctor Frankenstein's intentions were to create a new life so people didn't have to die. He wanted this new life to be beautiful. The reader knows this because it states in the book "I had selected features as beautiful". By reading words like 'horrid', 'shriveled' 'black lips', 'lustrous black' and 'yellow skin' one can tell that Doctor Frankenstein's intentions were misfortunately incorrect. The creation is hurt by people's reactions toward him because he wants to be an insider but he can't because of his ugly appearance. As Frankenstein has abandoned his creation it went looking for friends elsewhere. The creation came across a cottage in the woods, the family was out apart from the grandpa who is fortunately blind for the creature because other people judge him by his appearance and think he is a monster with out knowing what his inner qualities are. The blind man can only judge the creation by what he says. The reader can tell how eager the creation is to make a friend and be in someone's company because it says in the book 'I knew that every minute was precious to me'. By reading the book I got the impression that the creation
