R.P. McMurphy is a man who is in this world to do as well for him-self as he can. When he enters the hospital he brings with him a feeling of freedom. The Acutes begin to gamble with him but he wins their cigarettes relatively easily. They know that he is winning their cigarettes but they still carry on gambling with him because they are having fun. The Big Nurse thinks that its wrong that McMurphy is taking the Acutes' cigarettes so she takes away the Acutes' cigarettes and hands them out to the patients one pack at a time. This is her effort to try and regain some control over the patients. She makes McMurphy the bad person as if he is fleecing the patients, which he really is but they don't seem to mind as they are having fun. McMurphy feels that Big Nurse is not helping...
