Analyse the way Conrad creates a sense of atmosphere in 'Heart of Darkness'. In your answer focus particularly on language/imagery. In 'Heart of Darkness', the author, Joseph Conrad, never describes exactly how things happen, and what the characters are experiencing. He does, however, use clever language that creates an atmosphere in our minds. I will be looking at a small extract from Part Two of the novel at the special language it uses, and how Conrad cleverly gives subtle hints of what is to come in the story. The main storyline in Part Two is that Marlow, by whom the story is told, works in an ivory factory and has been sent to find his colleague, Kurtz.
