Of Mice And Men The book of "Of Mice and Men" was written by John Steinbeck in the 1930s during the troubled time of the depression in America. The depression left 15 million people unemployed and many people homeless. There were also many people forced to move to the rich state of California there were plenty of working opportunities available to people. In this certain period of time there was no social security such as the dole this meant that when people finished work they had no income it became very hard to survive. This meant that for the weaker members of society it was a lot harder to stay alive. George and Lennie are American civilians that are classed as social outcasts. There is a big contrast between the two characters because Lennie is mentally challenged and George is very clever and is the leader of the two. They travel together...
